While exploring the Surrey Hills I grew increasingly captivated by the yew trees I found there. Each one seems to possess its own distinct character and quiet drama. Yews are among the longest-lived trees in Northern Europe, some estimated at one to five thousand years old—a span that’s hard to fathom. Their rich presence in folklore adds another compelling layer. I therefore set out to create a project that captures the essence of these magnificent yews and communicates what I find so inspiring about them. This book marks where I am so far in my photographic voyage of discovery. I have also endeavoured to collate some facts and myth that surround the yew, which I hope you might find interesting.
